James Steven Nesbitt – Obituary

James Steven Nesbitt, 63, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. The service will follow in the chapel with Brother Tom Whatley officiating. A private family graveside service will be held in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Steve was a member of Woodward Avenue Baptist Church. He was chairman of Helen Keller Hospital Foundation, past president of Shoals Chamber of Commerce, and Citizen of the Year. He also served on the University of North Alabama president’s cabinet and as a board member of Shoals Entrepreneurial Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Brinkley Nesbitt, and brother, Mark Nesbitt.

Survivors are his wife of 42 wonderful years, Shawn Brokaw Nesbitt; daughters, Melissa Clark (Stuart) and Kimberly Hughston (Hal); grandchildren, Jackson and Kate Clark, Lucy and Harry Hughston; sister, Linda Nesbitt Campbell (Tommy); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Pallbearers will be Stuart Clark, Hal Hughston, Tommy Campbell, Brian Franks, Boyce Nesbitt, Dennis Norton, Mike Stumpe, David Clepper, Clay Vandiver, and Roger Gargis. Honorary pallbearers will be his many golfing buddies.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Helen Keller Hospital Foundation at P.O. Box 610 Sheffield, AL 35660.
