Sudie Faye Shields Davidson – Obituary

Sudie Faye Shields Davidson, 73, formerly of Mantachie, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at her home. She was born March 31, 1943, in the Ozark community of Itawamba County to Charlie D. and Mattie Sue Rusoe Shields. She attended Houston School and Mantachie High School.  She married her husband of 57 years, Bobby Gene Davidson, on December 18, 1959. They made their home in Mantachie for 41 years before moving to the Liberty Grove community south of Tremont to be near her daughter and her family. Sudie worked at Mantachie Manufacturing, Washington Furniture in Mantachie, and the cafeterias at Mantachie and Tremont schools until her retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mantachie but had been attending James Creek Primitive Baptist Church until her health declined. She enjoyed working in the yard, sewing, cooking, and working word searches. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends and talking on the phone with her sister and best friend, Betty Taylor.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Bill Adams and Bro. Grady Davidson officiating. Burial will be in the Center Star Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Bobby Gene Davidson; her daughter, Rhonda (Noel) Kennedy; and two granddaughters, Paige Kennedy and Hope Kennedy, all of Tremont; her sister and best friend, Betty (Elvis “Bud”) Taylor of the Ozark community; two brothers, Kilby (Shirley) Shields of Fulton and Kelcy (Judie) Shields  of Mantachie; her mother-in-law, Augie Davidson of Mantachie; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers will be Eric Shields, Frank Shields, Grant Shields, Mitch Taylor, Gary Langley, and Jimmy Tabler. Honorary pallbearers will be Dwight Davidson and Robert Ellis.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the funeral home.
