He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He got much pleasure watching his westerns, listening to his music (including an extensive 8-track collection), and playing solitaire on the computer. He also enjoyed the company of the ladies who were “easy on the eyes” that would come for fittings with Mama E.

He was a member of Madison County Church of Christ. He always enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Over the years, he worked for and supervised many warehouses including Teleci, Graham’s Snack Foods (Tom’s), and Model Mill (Martha White). He also worked for Conalco and would show you his scar on his finger from his time working at Dr. Pepper.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Pope; grandson, Jacob Thomas Pope, parents, Elmer and Martha Pope; brother, Cecil Pope; and sister-in-law, Ann Wagster.

He.is survived by his children, Laura Diane Rushing (Junior) of Medon, Martha Lynn Rice (Tony) of Jackson, Michael Gilbert Pope (Cheryl) of Franklin, and Darrell Thomas Pope (Candy) of Jackson; eight grandchildren, April Lynn Richey (Tom), Melanie Crosby (Drew), Jeff Rice (Jennifer), Christie Hunter (Jesse), Tiffani Pope, Jamie Rushing, Gabrielle Pride (Jacob), and Taylor Phillips, thirteen great-grandchildren, Anna Daugherty, Jaden Hunter, Chloe Hunter, Nova Rice, Reggi Rushing, Ella Ausbrooks, Corbin Crosby, McLane Daugherty, Lydia Rice, Mia Phillips, Darcy Rice, Camdyn Crosby, and Remington Pride.
