Funeral service for Rachel Christine “Cricket” Daily Hendrix, 85, will be Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Todd Evans officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Ms. Hendrix died on Sunday, February 19, 2017. She was born December 30, 1931, in Colbert County to William McKinley Daily and Lula Mae Hester Daily.
Ms. Hendrix graduated in 1950 from Russellville High School, where she played snare and bass drum in the Marching Hundred. While in high school, Cricket developed her love of nursing, while working for Dr. Spruell. She attended Florence StateTeachers College and then Shelbyville Community College, where she received her LPN degree. In 1969, she moved with her family to Hartselle and later attended Calhoun Community College and earned her RN degree. In 1979, she attended UAB’s first Nurse Practitioners class and graduated at the top of her class. She provided care in many rural clinics in Alabama before becoming the first Nurse Practitioner at Druid City Hospital (Tuscaloosa) working with Neurosurgeon, Dr. Moses Jones. Cricket was the first Director of Nursing at the North Alabama Regional Hospital and later worked in various positions eventually retiring from the V.A.
In her spare time, she loved to Jitterbug and in her Bridge Group she was known as “The Intimidator”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers: Gresham Daily of Vinemont, AL and Cecil Daily of Waco, AL.

Hunter M. Wood (Christina), Alta Monte Springs, FL,
Dr. Maggie H. McKelvey (Grant), Hartselle, AL,
Dr. Lizzie H. Lusk (Chase), Hartselle, AL,
Mac B Hendrix, Hartselle, AL and
Rachel W. Peterson (Kyle), Fort Stewart, GA
Nine Great Grandchildren
Pallbearers will be Grant McKelvey, Chase Lusk, Mac Hendrix, Jim Waller, Aaron Isaacson, and Kelly Stuart.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Glenn Bridges, Carl Hendrix, and Hunter Wood.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
