FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department released a statement concerning the robbery of an 83-year-old man on Sunday, February 19:

” Jessica Long and Jacob Ryan-  Long and Ryan were arrested and charged with armed robbery following a Sunday morning incident in Indian Springs.

Police were contacted after an 83-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint while walking in his neighborhood.

Officers responded to the scene and spoke with the man, who was not harmed, and were gathering information when a second call of a fight was received near the area. Florence officers along with Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and located Jacob Ryan.

Ryan, along with Jessica Long, were taken into custody without incident and charged

following the investigation.

Evidence of the crime, include a firearm, was recovered during the investigation. Evidence indicates that the two robbed the man for a small amount of money before fleeing the scene.

We are fortunate in this case that the victim was not harmed. The man was simply out for a walk when he was victimized in broad daylight.

There is no doubt that this situation could have turned out much worse, but officers and detectives were quick in their response and diligent in their efforts to make a solid case and charge the suspects swiftly.

This case highlights the dangers that exist in our world.   The total theft in this case was $6.00 US (the pocket change that the victim had on his person while out for a walk).”
