Thelma Mae McClure Wright – Obituary

Thelma Mae McClure Wright, 89, Florence, died on Friday, February 17, 2017, peacefully, at home, after a brief illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Lauderdale County and a member of Chisholm Hills Church of Christ. Thelma was an avid gardener, with a green thumb, who enjoyed traveling and fishing with her loving husband, of 57 years, D. L. Wright. Together, they opened Wright’s Pit Bar-B-Que, located in the Underwood / Petersville area, in 1973.

Thelma is survived by lifelong friend and sister-in-law Ruby (Moomaw) Glover, Florence; nieces: Kathleen (McClure) Parker, Florence, and Sheila (Wright) Atencio (Rae), Florence; great-nieces: Angie (Parker) Hendon, Florence, and Ashley (Atencio) Bridges (Scott), Madison: great-nephews, Michael Parker, Birmingham, and Eric Atencio (Paige), Honolulu; many loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, D. L. (2004); her parents, Wesley and Emma (Hendrix) McClure; sisters: Dessie Trousdale, Mary Gladney, and Audrey Creasy; brothers: H. A., Alvin, Owen, and J. B.

The family will receive friends at Greenview Funeral Home on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 12:00 until 1:00 PM with service following in the Greenview Memorial Chapel and interment in Greenview Cemetery. Officiants will be Jack Flowers, Ellis Coats and Charles Abernathy.

Pallbearers are Rae Atencio, Eric Atencio, Scott Bridges, Gale Wright, Johnny Wright, and Dr. Johnathan Wright. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Rayburn, Dr. Michael Mitchell and Michael Parker.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to Johnny and Bobbie Rayburn for their friendship and acts of kindness throughout the years. Appreciation is also expressed to Hospice of the Shoals for their support and counseling.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Chisholm Hills Church of Christ Mission Fund, Hospice of the Shoals, or the American Cancer Society.
