Frances S. Goodwin – Obituary

 Frances S. Goodwin, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, formerly a long time resident of Florence, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Feb. 17, 2017 at 99 years old. She was a loving wife, caring mother, beloved grandmother, and loyal friend. Born on Feb. 28, 1917, in Cullman, Alabama, she was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lula South; her beloved husband, Alvin E. Goodwin; her son, Rodger E. Goodwin; and two brothers, and six sisters. She grew up in a large and loving family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Goodwin Barnett (Joel), of Hoover, Alabama. She has four grandchildren, Elizabeth Barnett Wall (Jeff), of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Jennifer Barnett Childs (James), of Mountain Brook, Alabama, and Carrie Barnett Miller, (Mark), of Falmouth, Maine, and Joey Goodwin, Florence, Alabama. She was blessed with 11 great- grandchildren.

While living in Vestavia at Morningside of Vestavia, she served the retirement community well. She was involved in HandBells, the Hospitality committee, several Bible studies, her special Rook Group, and exercise classes three times a week.

Frances was a long time employee of Kayes and The Bootery, where her sweet spirit touched many lives.

She was a devoted member of North Wood United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she was an active member of the Fidelis Sunday School class, her circle, the Joy Club and the Goodwill Club.

Frances will be remembered for her gift of hospitality, her friendship, her beautiful smile that would light up any room, and her devotion to her Lord and her family.

There will be a graveside service in Cullman, Alabama at the Cullman City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017. Reverend Kenny Baskins will conduct the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, or North Wood United Methodist Church, 111 Wills Avenue, Florence, AL 35630.
