Minnie Lee Dye – Obituary

Minnie Lee Dye, age 101, a life-long resident of Lawrence County living in Bonnertown passed away Friday, February 17, 2017, at Southern TN Regional Health System in Lawrenceburg, TN.  She was a native of Lauderdale County, AL, and graduated from Loretto High School and Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU).  She was an educator in Lauderdale County, Alabama and Lawrence County, Tennessee for 26 years before her retirement.  She was a dedicated Christian and the oldest member of Bonnertown Baptist Church where she taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School most of her life.  For over 25 years, she was the tour director for the Lawrence County Travel Club traveling in 48 states including Hawaii and Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. William Andrew “Preacher” Fowler, Sr. and Mettie Jane Davis Fowler; her first husband, Hugh Hammond, who died in World War II; her second husband, Felton Dye, died in a car accident; and two brothers, Rev. W. A. “Bill” Fowler, Jr. and Miley D. Fowler.

She was the lone survivor of her generation.  Her family relatives include two nephews, William and Pat Fowler of Columbia, TN, Mike and Linda Fowler of Nashville, TN; and one niece, Marion Fowler Joiner of Five Points, TN.  Several grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2017, with Bro. Sammy Wallace officiating.  Interment will follow at Bonnertown Cemetery in Bonnertown, TN.   Family suggests memorials be made to the Lawrence County Education Foundation.
