Nelda Ruth Downing Newman of Ardmore passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Pulaski. She was born in Portageville, Missouri on June 28, 1930 and was 86 years old.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and teacher. She taught for 35 years in the California and Missouri Public School systems. She graduated from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor’s Degree.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 15th from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home.
A Graveside Service will follow visitation on Wednesday at 1:30pm at Bethany Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Bettie Finley Downing, three sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her,
Husband of 59 years, Joe Newman of Ardmore
Daughter, JoNel Newman of Miami
Grandson, George McConnell Newman Perez of Miami
Several nephews, nieces, cousins and friends also survive.
