Poke Sallet Follies Tickets and other events for February in Athens

ATHENS-Athens community info…there are several activities coming up in February.
  • Reminder that Poke Sallet Follies tickets go went on saleSaturday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. to noon at the Athens Senior Center. This is the 25th anniversary of the variety show with so-called actors from local officials to judges to some people with actual talent that raises money for the Limestone County Foundation for Aging. Tickets also will be on sale from 6-8 p.m. on Monday nights at the Athens Senior Center. Cost is $35 and includes dinner from 306 BBQ. The show dates are March 3, 4 and 5 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center.
  • The annual Chocolate Walk hosted by Athens Main Street will be Feb. 11 from 1-6 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/spirit-of-athens-chocolate-walk-tickets-31484576215/amp Check in that day at the Athens Main Street office (Spirit of Athens) to confirm ticket purchase and get a goody bag with a list of participating merchants who will provide ticket holders with a chocolate treat. Merchants also will have some sweet store specials. Visit every participating merchant and enter a chance to win $25 in Love Bucks to spend on your next trip to Downtown Athens. (NOTE: High Cotton Arts will have music by Sharpshooter from the Shoals area from 2-4 p.m.)
  • Athens Arts League is hosting the monthly Listening Lounge at High Cotton Arts on Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. with author Jim Nesbitt, who will have a book launch for “The Right Wrong Number” and readings from his book with guest Jerry Barksdale. There will be light refreshments.
  • Hospice of Limestone County Chili Challenge and Silent Auction is Feb. 18 from 10-2 at Athens High. Call 256-232-5017 to be one of the 32 Chili Challengers to compete for best booth, best chili, etc. Tickets will be available at the door for $10. There will be chili tastings, entertainment, and chance to bid on items from sports memorabilia to plants to art to professional services. This is the only fundraiser for the only non-profit Hospice operating in Limestone County.
  • Gail Bergeron’s Athens State art students will once again host the Mardi Gras Street Fair on Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. Bring the kids by High Cotton Arts at 5:30 p.m. to decorate Mardi Gras masks and decorate their wagons/bicycles for the mini-parade and get Moon Pies while supplies last. The mini-parade will travel Marion and Washington streets. Organizers are working to get a Dixieland band. If anyone has beads they can donate, please email Gail at gail.bergeron@athens.edu
