Dorothy L. Wilson Whitten of Cypress Inn, TN was born May 18, 1925 in Iron City, TN, the daughter of the late Shelby Warren and Ida Lee Barnett Wilson. She was united in marriage to Charlie Garner (Mutt) Whitten on September 7, 1945 and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Whitten departed this life on Monday, August 20, 2012 at her home at the age of 87 Years, 3 Months, 2 Days.
She is survived by her husband, Garner (Mutt) Whitten; sons, Jerry Whitten and wife, Brenda, Michael Whitten and wife, Susan, and Randy Whitten and wife, Marsha all of Cypress Inn, TN; a daughter, Bettye Regena Ethridge and husband, Rick of Florence, AL; grandchildren, Timothy L. Whitten and wife, Kim, Christopher Whitten and wife, Alicia, Chad Whitten and wife, Bobbi, Adam Whitten and wife, Jessica, Melissa Whitten, and Kelly Whitten; great- grandchildren, David B. Whitten, Blake R. Whitten, Daniel Whitten, Adley Bea Whitten; sisters, Willadean Staggs of Waynesboro, TN, Reba Brown of Iron City, TN, and Shelby Jean Smith and husband, Elzo of Cypress Inn, TN; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitten was preceded in death by sons, Terry Lane Whitten and an infant son; sisters, Sybil Whitten and Carmen Butler; and an infant brother.
Services will be Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Collinwood, Tennessee, with John Allen Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Railroad Cemetery , Iron City, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Tim, Chris, Chad, Adam, Johnny, and Jeff Whitten, Elzo Smith, and Larry Staggs.
