Richard Paul Mummert – Obituary

Funeral for Richard Paul Mummert, 91, of Decatur will be Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with Tim White officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Mummert, who died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017 at his residence, was born April 4, 1925, in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania to Paul and Pearl Mummert. He was preceded in death by his son, Tracy; sister, Jean Hale; and his wife of 56 years, Betty Wiley Mummert. He served in the U.S. Army in Normandy, France, was wounded in 1944. He received two Battle Stars, Purple Heart, Bronze Star and World War II Victory Medal. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion VFW, Disabled American Veterans, 50-year Master Mason and member of Cahaba Shriners.

Survivors include his wife, Elna Jean Mummert; two sons, Gary A. Mummert and his wife, Doris, and Terry Lee Mummert and his wife, Martha; one daughter, Sheree M. Henderson and her husband, David; two stepsons, Edward and Randall Schaefers; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
