Virginia “Ginny” Hughey – Obituary

Virginia “Ginny” Hughey, 81, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, surrounded by her family, at Magnolia Trace in Huntsville. She was born July 7, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Elvis and Florence Larkin. A 1953 graduate of Huntsville High School, she also attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Ginny married Bill G. Hughey on Sept. 3, 1955. Together they had three children. She was a devoted wife, active volunteer in her community, loved to write poetry, and had many hobbies. She was co-owner of Athens Custom Interiors.

Ginny is survived by her husband, Bill Gene Hughey; daughter, Pam Parker (Ed) of Tuscaloosa; son, John Hughey (Libba) of Huntsville; daughter, Beth Hill (Gary) of Athens; six grandchildren, Morgan Parsons of Patagonia, Arizona, Nolan Hughey of Decatur, Georgia, Ben Hughey of Huntsville, Sally Ager of Birmingham, Drew Hill and Emily Hill, both of Athens, and one great-grandson, Benny Hughey. She is also survived by her sisters, Jeanne Hoffmire of Tiburon, California and Connie Pope of Jacksonville, Florida; and brother, Elvis Larkin of Decatur. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held today, Jan. 17, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Church of the Nativity in Huntsville with Father Rusty McCown officiating. Visitation will follow the service. (www.laughlinservice.com)

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Athens, Church of the Nativity or a charity of choice.
