MUSCLE SHOALS-On Friday, January 13 True Medical Group/Dr. Roy Barco MD, PhD  located at 203 Avalon Avenue, Suite 120 in Muscle Shoals celebrated their grand opening with an open house and ribbon cutting.  The Shoals Chamber was on hand to welcome Dr. Barco and his staff to the Shoals along with friends and family.

Now a little about Dr. Barco and True Medical:

Dr. Roy Barco was raised in South Florida, the oldest of four children and first in his family to attend college. He enrolled at University of Mi-ami for his undergraduate studies under the Howard Hughes Scholarship Program, graduating summa cum laude with bachelor of science degrees in Biology and Exercise Physiology. He was subsequently accepted into Vanderbilt University Medical School under full scholarship through the Medical Scientist Training Program, where he obtained his Medical Doctorate (MD). At Vanderbilt, he also received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cancer Biology, publishing multiple manuscripts in the field of synovial sarcoma research. His medical schooling was followed by internal medicine residency training at University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center. He subsequently accepted a position with St Vincent’s Family Care in Oneonta, Alabama, where he practiced primary care medicine while providing inpatient coverage for St Vincent’s Blount Hospital. In recognition of his commitment to primary care medicine, he was selected as a representative on the St Vincent’s Primary Care Council.

When not caring for his patients, Dr Barco is a devoted husband to his wife Tandy, whom he met during his residency training. Together, they raise two loving and energetic children, Kreston and Kaidance. A disciple of Jesus Christ, he believes in giving glory to God through serving his community as the embodiment of the ideal physician. As such, his practice focuses on treating the wide range of health issues in a caring, friendly environment. These health issues include acute conditions like infectious diseases, dermatological conditions, injuries and sudden flares of asthma, COPD and congestive heart failure. He manages a wide range of chronic medical conditions as well, such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, COPD, congestive heart failure, osteoarthritis, anxiety and depression. An advocate of preventative medicine, he places emphasis on vaccinations and cancer screening.

Providing quality medical care also involves a truly patient-centered approach. To that end, short wait times and adequate time with your primary care provider are a significant priority. Onsite phlebotomy, x-ray services, ultrasound, pulmonary function testing and stress testing are also offered to maximize patient convenience. To provide care for patients that have difficulty seeing the doctor due to work, he offers evening hours care. For members of the Hispanic community that prefer speaking in their native language, Dr. Barco is fluent is Spanish. Lastly, although the emphasis of our care is to keep the patient healthy enough to stay out of the hospital, Dr. Barco will round on patients that require hospitalization at Shoals Hospital. Dr. Barco and his team look forward to meeting your healthcare needs.”
