ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released the name of the victim in the auto/bicycle accident that took place on Thursday evening, January 12:

“Last night approximately 8:30 the police department received a call of an accident on Elm Street at Elmwood Apartments involving a car and a bike cycle. When emergency personal arrived they determined Corey Easton Lindsay 24 of Athens had died at the scene of the accident. Lindsay had been staying with a friend at Swan Creek Apartments however he was from Decatur. The investigation into this accident is continuing and will be for the next several days. At this time we believe Lindsay was riding a bike cycle without and lights west on Elm Street in the inside lane traveling west. The driver of the vehicle that struck Lindsay didn’t see him till it was too late to avoid the bike. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Athens Limestone Hospital by ambulance. To the best of my knowledge she was treated and released. Elm Street was closed till about midnight and then reopened.”
