Elizabeth Ann Smith Lanning – Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Smith Lanning, 81, of Lawrenceburg died peacefully at home Wednesday, January 11, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Lawrence County, she was a devoted wife of fifty-eight years, mother, and friend to many throughout the community. Mrs. Lanning retired as a supervisor from  Kay Windsor Manufacturing and was one of the founders of Rick’s Barbecue and was instrumental in the day to day operations until her retirement. She was a member of the New Prospect United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin Lanning, her parents Jesse L. and Lillie G. Smith, brother Gerald (Buddy) Coffee, and Anita Coffee, sister-in-law.

Survivors are her children Linda Loyd (Allan) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Michael Lanning (Gina) of Murfreesboro, TN, Julie Rolen (Jeff), Rick Lanning (Karen), and Janet Hartsfield (Ronnie) all of Lawrenceburg, TN.  Survivors also include her fifteen grandchildren, Laura Sandrell (Chris) of Columbia, TN, Charles Loyd (Abby) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Sam Loyd (Lynzi) of Murfreesboro, TN, Scarlett Murphy (Jeff), Anne Marie Brentz (Bryce), Natalie Lanning all of Murfreesboro, TN, Elizabeth Moore (Russ) of Leoma, TN, Tyler Lanning, Eric Lanning, of Lawrenceburg, TN, Alexa Lanning and Anna Lanning of Nashville, TN, Nathan Hartsfield (Brittany) of Lawrenceburg, TN,  Jay Hartsfield (Meagan) of Delhi, India, Chris Hartsfield of Knoxville, TN, Matt Hartsfield of Murfreesboro, TN.  Additionally, she is survived by 20 great grandchildren: Annlee, Sadie, and Chase Sandrell, Lily, Annie, and Will Loyd, Corbin Lanning, Dominic Murphy, Emily and Wyatt Moore, Lyla, Gracie, Max, Raleigh, Ally and Brylee Hartsfield; extended family, Matt Byrd (Brittany) and children Maddie and Brooks Byrd and Abby and Braxton Kelsey, and special friend and caregiver, Bunny Boldin.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends between the hours of 4:00-8:00 at Neal Funeral Home on Friday, January 13, 2017 and services for  Mrs. Lanning will be held Saturday at 11:00 in the chapel with Bro. Billy Beal and Bro. Mickey Brackin officiating. Interment will be at Mimosa Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
