I recently went to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg the last week of December for my yearly vacation. I am glad to say that the area is recovering from the fires that roared throughout the region a couple of months ago. Of course, the rebuild is slow, but people were in good spirits and construction was coming along.
Now my vacation usually revolves around a hot tub and food. That is it. That is basically all that I do when I go. So, with that in mind, I want to give you a couple of Restaurant Reviews in case you might be visiting the area anytime soon.
Big Bear Pizza
This restaurant is located on the parkway in Pigeon Forge. They offer delivery to hotels and cabins. They have burgers, wings, and pizza. I tried one of their pizzas and it was great.
There are 2 locations of Calhouns. The original one is on the river on the John White Parkway, downtown Knoxville. The second location is on the Parkway in Pigeon Forge. They are famous for their steaks. I always get Steak Calhouns which is a steak that has been marinated in barbeque sauce for 24 hours. A baked potato and corn pudding rounded out my meal.
I didn’t get it that day but they have homemade Banana Pudding. They use white Macadamia Cookies in it instead of wafers. It is awesome.
Long John Silvers
I know you are probably thinking “that’s not fine dining.” It may not be, but I miss Long John Silvers. The one that I always go to while I am in the area is in Sevierville. I love their Chicken Planks.
I love this place. It is the home of the Steak Burger. My favorite is the Triple Cheese Steak Burger. They are open 24 hours a day. One night I woke up about midnight and I was starving. So to Steak-n-Shake I went for a midnight snack.
I love TGIFs Jack Daniels marinated Steaks. There are 2 TGIFs located on the parkway. One is in Sevierville and the other in Pigeon Forge. I always get the Jack Daniels Ribeye with Mashed Potatoes and Baked Mac & Cheese. It is Delicious.
I always visit Corky’s Barbeque every time I am in the area. They are famous for their Ribs as well as Barbeque. They cook their meats over East Tennessee Hardwoods. That gives it that deep smoky taste. I usually get the Barbeque with Baked Beans and Mac & Cheese. It is wonderful. It is located on the Parkway just before you start into Gatlinburg.
Hopefully, I now have your Taste Buds in overdrive. The next time you are in the Pigeon Forge area stop by and try one or all of these Restaurants. You won’t be sorry.
On a side note, a friend of mine invited me to the Railroad Bridge to watch the sunset recently. This is not something I would usually do, but I have to tell you that I really enjoyed it. It was beautiful. Below is a pic that I took.
