Steven D. Henry

A resident of Winthrop, Maine, Steve died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, in Newport News, Virginia.

He was born in Florence, Alabama on June 3, 1957, where he graduated from Bradshaw High School. Steve earned a degree in Graphic Design from Middle Tennessee State University. On the day of his college graduation, as an ROTC member, he was sworn into the Army. He was stationed in Germany and was a 1st Lieutenant.

Steve was well known as a history buff and loved his role as a civil war re-enactor for over 25 years. He was currently a valued member of the 3rd Maine. He was passionate about woodworking. His craftsmanship creating civil war reproductions led to his business, Heritage Woodworks. Several lucky people are owners of a “Steve Henry” reproduction.

Steve was a piping designer and engineer. At the time of his death, he was working on the USS Enterprise in Newport News, Virginia. His last completed ship was the USS Zumwalt out of Bath, Maine where he worked for Bath Iron Works.

As a loving gentle giant, Steve was friends to many and his passing will leave a large hole in many hearts. He had a great love for his family and is survived by his wife, Laura M. Gill, of Winthrop, whom he adored; a daughter, Kathryn A. Henry, of New Mexico; a son, C.J. Dupont, of Winthrop; his father, Arlice T. Henry and his wife Eleanor, of Florence, Alabama; his mother, Katie M. Henry, of Pinson, Alabama; two brothers, Paul Henry, of Plano, Texas, Scott Henry, of Huntsville, Alabama; and his much loved “Little Man” Murphy. Steve also had many extended family members and loved ones he cared deeply for.

A funeral service will be held on January 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 219 Winthrop Center Rd., Winthrop, ME.
