A Christmas baby, Doris Griffith Webb was born to Thomas and Kathryn (Mitchell) Griffith in Summit, Alabama on December 27, 1929. The amazing woman we all came to know as “Gran” took her last breath on her 88th birthday, December 27th, 2016 at Shepherd’s Cove surrounded by her family.

Little Doris Griffith moved to Guntersville with her parents at the age of three where “Daddy Charlie” was a dairy farmer and “Mama Kate” owned one of the first dress shops in Northtown. Of course Doris was the envy of every girl, twirling around in the latest fashions of the time. However, although she was an only child, it was at a very young age that she learned the gift of sharing and caring which continued to be a trademark of her life until the end.

In 1947 a young, handsome, Fulmer Webb Sr. took Doris as his bride and they began their life together in Guntersville. They were blessed with three children, Charlotte, Susie and last, but not least, a baby boy, Fulmer Webb, Jr. lovingly called Budgie. The tragic death of Budgie was a heartache she carried her entire life, however, it gave her insight and compassion to serve others facing similar situations.

The dynamic duo ran The Webb Restaurant for nearly 30 years and instilled community service in both daughters who both currently work in various roles of service today.

Even though cooking was her favorite pastime and greatest talent, her passion was family. She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Webb and Susie Conerly (Tank), both of Guntersville, AL. Two granddaughters, Kathryn Baucom (Jeff), Albertville, and Georgi Bragg (Greg) of Huntsville, Alabama. The “icing on the cake” of her life was great grandchildren, Royce, Grey, James and Henry. Her energy and zest for life can be seen in every descendant!

“Gran” worshipped with her family at Guntersville’s Church of the Epiphany where she was a member since 1965. Her life will be celebrated with her friends and family at that special church before going to her final resting place at Crestwood Cemetery in Guntersville.

Although “Gran’s” final years took such a toll on her tiny frame, this “Steel Magnolia” weathered many storms and defied the odds many times, returning to her home where she spent the very last days of her life.
The family owes a debt of gratitude to so many for the outpouring of help, love and prayers over the past few years. A special thank you to the Hospice team and especially to Catherine Cross, who has been such a dear companion to our beloved mother and grandmother.

“Gran” will be remembered for many things…not the least, her amazing Rum Cake, however, her greatest legacy will be seen in the eyes and faces of those who loved her most…her family. They will be a living testament to her life and her love.
The Pallbearers will be Jody Chorba, Charlie Conner, Randy Hasty, Shane Wilks, Buddy Bunch and Butch Moss. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Tank Conerly, Gregg Bragg, Rusty Chorba, Craig Wilks and Jeff Baucom.
