Cornelia Bess McGee – Obituary

Cornelia Bess McGee, 82, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016, at The Meadows. She was born February 20, 1934, in Florence, Alabama, to Harley and Era McGee. She lived her early years in Wayne County, Tennessee. She moved to Fulton, Mississippi, in 1953 with her husband, H. D. McGee. To many, she was known as George, Bess, Nelia, or her most famous name, “Nee-Nee.” Throughout her life, she maintained a sweet, soft-spoken demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Cornelia cared for her family and friends through her delicious cooking and unconditional love. Cornelia believed her greatest legacy was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Regina Senter (Joe) of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Jerry McGee (Terissa), Carol Drake, Dwight McGee (Angie), and Lori Holland (Jim), all of Fulton; her grandchildren, Aimee Gardner (Jeff), Kelly Sipes (Jason), Brande O’Hare, Richard Senter (Heather), Gerald McGee, Emily Mabus (Chip), Courtney Gottschall (Brian), Jenna Nassar (Matt), Megan Valasky (Aaron), Cole Holland, and Jack Holland; 22 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; her sisters, Laura Bob Rye of Wyandotte, MI, and Celia Broom (Scotty) of Medina, TN; one brother, Jack McGee (Mary); and her special friends, Jackie Gates, Mary Mabus, Julie Sullivan, Ann Izard, and Dot Morrow.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, H. D. McGee; her granddaughter, Jessica Senter; her brother, Kenneth McGee; and her parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, at Fulton Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Bill VanWinkle and Bro. Michael Hutton officiating. Burial will be in the Gallaher Cemetery in Wayne County, TN. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton has been entrusted with arrangements.
