Moulton AL-A jury on Thursday awarded the daughter of a woman, who was killed in an automobile accident, $300,000.00.

In August of 2010, Gary Dobbs was involved in a fatal accident with Diane Garner Ricks of Town Creek at the intersection of Alabama 24 and Alabama 33 in Moulton.  A $575,000 negligence lawsuit was filed against Dobbs and Progressive Insurance Company, by Dwanda Parham who is Ricks’ daughter and estate administrator.  In the lawsuit it was alleged that Dobbs was traveling at an “excessive rate of speed” and “failed to keep a proper lookout and abide by the rules of the road” in running the red-light at the intersection.

The Prosecutor and Defense attorney presented their final arguments Thursday morning in Lawrence County Circuit Judge Mark Craig’s court room.  After Judge Craig gave final instructions to the jury they retired for deliberation.  It only took the jury about two hours to reach their decision and return to the court room with a verdict for the plaintiff of $300,000 dollars.

Dobbs retired from the full time morning weatherman position for Huntsville’s TV station WAAY-31 on Friday, August 10, 2012. Dobbs will remain with WAAY-31 and be doing human interest segments twice each morning on Thursday’s and Friday’s.  In addition to TV, Dobbs is also the host of a local radio show.
