Gracie Nell Barnes Lockhart Harper – Obituary

Gracie Nell Barnes Lockhart Harper, 90, of Ringgold, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Parkridge East Hospital. Gracie retired from her nursing career in Florence, Alabama in 1990 and moved to Ringgold, Georgia to live with her daughter and son-in-law where she was involved in caring for the whole family. She was a member of the Ringgold First Baptist Church where she had many friends who she loved within the church. Gracie was known and loved dearly by numerous friends and family members in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. She will be remembered by all as a person who truly loved and cared about people, especially her family. She would do anything she could to help and comfort whoever was in need.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Vatus Lockhart; second husband, Thomas A. Harper; son, James Donald Lockhart; stepdaughter, Yvonne Harper Burns, and her husband, James Burns; parents, Jesse and Viva Pugh Barnes; two brothers, Dewitt Barnes, and an infant brother; and five sisters, Nota Barnes, Estelle McFall, Odell Mobley, Effie Barnes and Earline Mobley.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Daniel Gandy, of Ringgold, Georgia.; son and daughter-in-law, Jesse Wayne and Tita Lockhart of Goochland, Virginia.; daughter-in-law, Sherry Lockhart, of Florence, Alabama; three stepsons, Douglas (Charlotte) Harper, and Aaron Harper, both of Florence, Alabama, and Glen (Sandra) Harper, Muscle Shoals; stepdaughter, Margaret Harper Looney, of Florence, Alabama; sister-in-law, Velvey Barnes, of North Port, Alabama; six grandchildren, Julie Lockhart Ogle, Stephen (Dana) Lockhart, Joshua (Michelle) Gandy, Kelly Gandy Hester, Karen (Zack) Lockhart, Lolly Leslie Lockhart, and Jimmy (Sherea) Burns; six great-grandchildren, Jessica Ogle, Jack Ogle, Isabel Hester, Madelyn Hester, Everett Gandy, and Alyssa Lolly; several stepgrandchildren, several nieces, and nephews.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Eric Kennedy officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
