Mr. Jerry Wayne Sherrell, age 70, formerly of Fort Payne, Alabama, passed away Nov. 8, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, from the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors. Brother Doc Shell and Mr. Danny Ashley will be officiating. The family will recieve friends from 6-8 p.m. today from the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Sherell was a resident of Florence for 35 years during which time he was a district manager for Alfa Insurance and an agent for Newton/Sherrell Insurance Agency then Sam Newton Insurance Agency until his death. Mr. Sherrell was a 1964 graduate of Dekalb County High School then went on to co-own and operate Car Village in Fort Payne for many years. He was a member of the Fort Payne Jaycees and served as president of the PTA and PTO for the Fort Payne School system. Mr. Sherrell also served in the National Gaurd 151st Engineering Division located in Fort Payne for 30 years during which time he was awarded a top recruiter award.
Mr. Sherrell is survived by wife, Martha Sharpe Sherrell, formerly of Collinsville, Alabama; daughter, Suzanne Burleson, of Florence, Alabama; sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Bradley Waddell, of Rainsville, Alabama; brother-in-law, Cecil (Bubba) Sharpe Jr., of Collinsville, Alabama; sister-in-law, Ann Sharpe Smith, of Mobile, Alabama; grandson, Saxon Burleson, of Florence, Alabama; grand nieces, Amanda Waddell, of Florence, Alabama, and Bethany Waddell, of Rainsville, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be James Smith, of Montgomery, Alabama, Ricky Parrish, of Florence, Alabama, Sam Newton, of Lexington, Alabama, Cecil Sharpe Jr., of Collinsville, Alabama, Bradley Waddell, of Rainsville, Alabama, and Danny Ashley, of Fyffe, Alabama.
Mr. Sherrell was preceded in death by mother and father, Harvean and Oneriv Sherrell.
The Sherrell family would like to thank Dr. Lango, of Florence, Alabama, and Dr. McGurie, of Birmingham, Alabama along with Alacare and the staff of Florence Rehabliltiation for their assistance during his illness.
