ktsb featuredTHE SHOALS-Shoals residents showed up on Saturday bright and early to clean up the Tennessee River.  In partnership with Keep The Shoals Beautiful and TVA residents were asked to “Fish for Litter” to catch cash prizes in the Tennessee River Litter Tournament.

Waste Connections, Inc set up roll off bins at four locations spanning Colbert and Lauderdale Counties, reaching both Wilson and Pickwick Lakes.  Collection sites were located at McFarland Park, Killen Lock Six, TVA Fleet Harbor and Riverfront Park.  It was hot work but Shoals citizens took it in stride and collected hundreds of pounds of litter leaving out Tennessee River cleaner for their effort.

“We hope this tournament will empower the public to take charge of a big issue facing our local water system in the form of fun and friendly competition,” added Chelsea Kauchick, Director of Keep the Shoals Beautiful.

The Quad Cites Daily was on hand to capture the clean-up in photos along with some help from The Shoals Chamber and Keep The Shoals Beautiful who added some really great photos as well.
