Camp Courage…A Helen Keller Experience – EVENT PHOTOS

Camp-Courage-Logo featuredTUSCUMBIA-The mission of Camp Courage is to offer hands-on learning experiences similar to those encountered by Helen Keller from an early age through adulthood. Camp Courage will introduce participants to the arts and to nature programs wherein the children will learn though senses other than sight. Camp Courage will ultimately advance these children to a higher level of achievement, both academically and socially, and encourage these children to “Be Like Helen.”

The Helen Keller birthplace was the centerpiece of this weekend’s activities for 11 children from three states…Alabama, Tennessee and Wisconsin.  Participants in this years camp are in the fourth and sixth grades, and each is either hearing or visually impaired…but for  two days in September the group came together as one. It was an experience these children will carry with them for a lifetime as well as the adults who helped make the camp a special memory for the kids.
