New “Perks In The Park” Program Planned In Conjunction With September Trolley Tours

Florence/Lauderdale Tourism is planning a new program called “Perks in the Park” for visitors and residents this fall. The September “Perks” programs will be held in conjunction with the popular trolley tours of historic downtown Florence offered by the Tennessee Valley Historical Society. After each trolley tour, a local historian will speak about the subject of that particular tour.

Two tours are set for this month, September 17 and September 24, at 11 a.m.rev Led by Lee Freeman of the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library, the “On The Trail of the Blue and the Gray” trolley tour features Florence sites that were a part of the Civil War.

The trolley will depart from the Florence/Lauderdale Tourism & Visitor Center in McFarland Park in Florence at 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to reserve a seat by calling 256-740-4141. Please arrive at the center at 10:30 a.m. for registration, refreshments and an introduction to the tour. General admission for the tours is now $10 for all ages, and small children who can sit in a parent’s lap ride free.

The new “Perks in the Park” programs are free to the public. Following the trolley tour on September 17, Dr. David Gregg, Vice President of Tennessee Valley Historical Society, will speak about the political and social experience of the Civil War in the Shoals, starting at 1 p.m. Following the September 24 trolley tour, City Historian Billy Ray Warren will speak about Florence: Culture & Development at 1 p.m. Both programs will be held in the Gallery at the Florence/Lauderdale Tourism & Visitor Center.
