TUPELO – Thursday, the Headquarters facility of the Natchez Trace Parkway was the venue for a naturalization ceremony for new United States Citizens. Part of the National Park Service’s Celebration of 100 years, the ceremony bestowed citizenship on 15 area residents. It was only 1 of 16 such ceremonies being held across the country to celebrate the big occasion. In all, about 450 new Citizens were sworn-in. This is a large step toward the goal of 100 such ceremonies in national parks throughout the centennial year. Some of the other locations for the August 25th ceremonies included the rim of the Grand Canyon, the Civil War battlefield at Vicksburg National Military Park, Mount Rushmore, Ellis Island and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
The Quad-Cities Daily was on hand to record the heartwarming service in EVENT PHOTOS.
