TUPELO– The Natchez Trace Parkway invites children and their families to come and enjoy “Big Night for Salamanders” as part of the Read with a Ranger program. The program starts at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Parkway Visitor Center. Read with a Ranger is a new 45-minute program that is most appropriate for ages six and under but all ages are welcome. Visitors can listen to a story, participate in a fun activity, and go on an optional quarter-mile hike. The program features a new story on the second Saturday of the month.
Participants will hear the story “Big Night for Salamanders” and embark on a virtual nail-biting journey as salamanders attempt to cross a busy road to lay their eggs in a spring pond. Will Ethan and his parents be able to help the amphibians make it across to safety? After the story, find out about the yellow-spotted salamander and the Parkway’s own salamander crossing.
