Roger Dale Motes – Obituary

Roger Dale Motes, age 62, passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016.

Visitation will be today 6-8 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home, Florence. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 24, 11 a.m., in Spry-Williams Chapel with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. The graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville, Alabama.

Roger was a 1972 graduate of Sheffield High School where he was manager of the football team. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and also retired from the United States Department of State in telecommunications. Roger was passionate about Alabama football, Bear Bryant, and NASCAR’s No. 3 Dale Earnhardt.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Millard and Melba Motes, of Sheffield and later Hanceville, Alabama, and grandparents, Richard and Sadie Motes and McCager and Ira Jackson, all of Hanceville.

He is survived by children, Albert M. Motes (Rachel), of Florence, Alabama, and Amber “Amy” Ouellette (Mark), of Clinton, Mississippi; brothers, Ronald Motes, of Florence, Alabama, and Richard Motes (Anne), of Cherokee, Alabama; grandchildren, Annelise, Emily, Jenna, and Colt Ouellette; and nieces and nephews.
