Rufus “Rodney” Sherrod – Obituary

rufusOn June 26, 2016, Rufus “Rodney” Sherrod left us to be with his Lord. He was born on Nov. 10, 1933, in Florence, Alabama to Rufus and Bessie Sherrod. As a young man, Rod came to South Bend to work at Ball Band and stayed there for 13 years. During this time he met his wife of 60 years, Sandra Lund. He then moved to Three Rivers, Michigan and worked at Research Molding for ten years. After that Rod came back to South Bend and worked at Automated Molded Plastics. He retired at the age of 59 due to physical problems.

He remained in the area the rest of his life. Rod loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed all sports, camping, fishing, and was an avid reader. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Shane Sherrod; a daughter, Lora Sherrod Hetmansperger; and a grandson, Ronald Arnett.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Sherrod; two brothers, David (Stella) Sherrod and Robert (Myra) Sherrod; daughters, Erin (Randy) Arnett and Kim (John) Stone; grandchildren, Chad Hetmansperger, Michael Sherrod, Molessia Reiff, and Eddie Cox; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 10-11 a.m. Friday at First Brethren Church, 4909 Ironwood Road, South Bend, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016, at the church. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
