Christine Elizabeth Goodwin Glover – Obituary

christineChristine Elizabeth Goodwin Glover, age 94, died after a brief illness on May 23, 2016. She was born and raised in Florence. She worked as a chemical analyst at TVA for 10 years and then followed her passion for banking. She worked with First Federal Savings and Loan for 28 years until she retired as a branch manager in Rogersville in 1986.

She was one of the founding members of the Tennessee Valley Art Association and worked closely with her friend and local artist Ethel Davis. She was a member of the Garden Club and loved flowers. She loved to travel and helped found the Senior Friends Association. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and North Wood UMC. Christine was a Christian woman and loved the Lord.

She was a strong willed woman with a fighting spirit. She was Ms. Senior Friends, 1993, and was nominated for Shoals Woman of the Year in 2008. She loved gardening, cooking, books and writing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Edward Glover; parents, Willie O. Goodwin and Lillian Gray Goodwin; brothers, Almon Goodwin, William “Bill” Goodwin and Henry Goodwin; and sisters, Hazel Balentine and Dorothy Redding.

She is survived by her only son, David Glover; daughters-in-law, Mary Glover and Lourece Dozier; granddaughters, Kristen Glover and Leah Williams; great-grandchildren, Aurora Patterson and Maximus Ingram; sisters, Ruth Rikard and Jean Goodwin; and special family friend, Christa Archer.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday, May 26, at 2 p.m. at North Wood Methodist Church, with Brother Scott Coats, officiating. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christine Glover Memorial Fund at any Listerhill Credit Union or Redstone Federal Credit Union.
