ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement on the Grand Jury Indictment of a suspect charged with Assault 2nd Degree:

“Valentino Houston was arrested last night on a Grand Jury indictment for Assault 2nd degree.

The indictment was from an incident that occurred in October of 2015. On October 25, 2015 Houston was at a residence on Vine Street where he got into a fight with the victim. While the two were scuffing Houston is accused of shooting the victim in his side.  Houston told officers the victim was beating on him and he shot the victim to stop the fight. The victim said Houston had pistol whipped him and shot him while he was attempting to leave the residence.

Both the victim and Houston were transported to Athens Limestone Hospital by ambulance. The victim in this case refused treatment and left the hospital.  Houston was treated and later released from the emergency room.

Houston was later arrested on a warrant for carrying a pistol without a permit.

This case was later presented to a Grand Jury which indicted Houston. After Houston’s arrest he was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
