Earl-Phelps-1461333819Earl Phelps was born June 2, 1928 in Providence, KY the son of the late George Frances and Daisy Rhea Scott Phelps.

On March 23, 1951, he was united in marriage to Doris Jeanette Harper.

Mr. Phelps was in ministry for over 65 years having ministered in Princeton, KY, Murray, KY, Birmingham, AL, Tuscaloosa, AL, Memphis, TN, San Antonio, TX, Tampa, FL, Brighton, TN, Bethel Springs, TN and Bolivar, TN. For 19 years, he was a stated clerk for West Tennessee Presbyterian. Mr. Phelps was a talented carpenter. He could build anything out of wood. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with his family. Mr. Phelps also loved playing cards and fishing. He NEVER met a stranger.

Mr. Phelps departed this life on April 21, 2016 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 87 Years, 10 Months, 19 Days. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Doris Phelps of Stantonville, TN; three daughters, Cindy Gabriel of Selmer, TN, Cathy Bowen and husband Rickey of Guys, TN, Christie Phelps Martin of Adamsville, TN; seven grandchildren: Chris Spiers, Nikki Spiers, Mica Tinsley, Jordan Tinsley, Drew Martin, Glenn Gabriel Jr., and Jake Martin; and four great grandchildren: Hunter Stricklin, Kinley Wilson, Charlie Tinsley, and Harrison Gabriel.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Phelps was preceded in death by two sisters, Nelda Phelps, and Edna Herrin; two brothers, Rev. J.D. Phelps, and Eugene Phelps.

In honor of Mr. Phelps, all of the pallbearers will be wearing his ties during the funeral service.
