ATHENS — Newly-appointed Limestone County District Judge Douglas “Doug” Lee Patterson will be sworn into office on Sunday, April 3 at 2 PM at the Limestone County Judicial Center at 503 South Jefferson Street. The ceremony is open to the public.
Patterson was appointed to the position after not drawing an opponent in the March 1 Republican Primary. He will replace retiring 39th Judicial District Judge Jeanne W. Anderson. Patterson’s appointment is effective April 1, 2016 and runs through January 16, 2017. His six-year term as District Judge, Place One for the 39th Judicial will begin at that time.
Patterson said he is truly humbled by the appointment and that he will work to uphold the standards of excellence and service set by The Honorable Jeanne W. Anderson.
“To serve the people of Limestone County is an honor beyond what words can describe,” said Patterson. “To serve the people following the remarkable career of Judge Jeanne W. Anderson is even more humbling. She has set the standard of service for the people of the 39th Judicial Circuit and it’s a tremendous honor to carry that standard with me.”
Patterson was born in Athens and attended Athens High School. He would later graduate from Athens State University and the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.
He is married to the former Heather Wilder, also of Athens. They have three children, Bradson (8) and Haley (3) and Hattie (2 months).
Patterson is the son of longtime Limestone County Revenue Commissioner Brian Patterson and Joy Patterson with Bank Independent.
Patterson is a former member of the Limestone County Republican Executive Committee, a board member for CASA, a member of the board of directors for The Arc of Alabama – Birdie Thorton Center, and is a longtime volunteer for both Hospice and the Athens Community Council on Aging.
His appointment was made official by Governor Robert Bentley on March 22.
