COUNTY-The Etowah County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement on the death of an inmate being held in the Etowah County Jail:

“Date: February 13, 2016
INMATE DEATH
(Etowah County, Alabama) An Etowah County inmate passed away early this morning, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
Gerald Joe Hill, 55, of Gadsden, appears to have died of natural causes. The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office and Oxford Police Department are conducting an investigation.
Sheriff Entrekin said, “Our thought and prayers are with the Hill family during this untimely loss.”
Hill was being held at the Etowah County Detention Center for two counts of first degree promoting prison contraband, a probation revocation on four counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and writ of arrest.”
