HUNTSVILLE-From The National Weather Service in Huntsville : 4:30pm Climate: Record Rainfall of 4.55″ was set @ HSV today. Old Record: 3.27″ in 73′ & it’s still raining! MSL received 2.46″ (as of 430pm climate time) and no was record broken as the record is 3.50″ set in 1914.
[6 PM 12/25] County officials across much of North Alabama still strongly discourage traveling overnight–flooding continues across the area, and many roads are still flooded and dangerous! Nightfall makes it worse, since it will be harder to see if a road is flooded.
If you must travel, use extreme caution, slow down, and TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN! Use extra caution around creeks and streams, as the flooding will worsen in larger waterways as all that water moves downstream.
