MONTGOMERY– Governor Robert Bentley on Monday approved the deployment of emergency management personnel to assist the state of South Carolina with response to the extreme flooding conditions in the state. The deployment is possible through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) which Alabama is a member. These first responders will be working closely with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division staff and will provide much needed assistance to their citizens.
In response to record amounts of rainfall leading to massive and wide-spread flooding, AEMA is identifying 10 to 15 staff to assist with damage assessments, if needed. AEMA will also send a Public Information Specialist to assist with media operations in the Joint Information Center. Those deployed could remain on assignment for up to 15 days.

“During natural disasters, Alabamians have always stepped up and helped citizens in need,” Governor Robert Bentley said. “With the extreme flooding in South Carolina, I have ordered deployment of Alabama emergency management personnel to help South Carolina respond as quickly as needed. We stand ready to help our South Carolina neighbors in need with any resource that is needed.”
“Anytime Alabama is not impacted we should be ready and willing to assist other states”, Alabama EMA Director Art Faulkner said. “I am confident the staff deployed through EMAC to help these other states are as well trained and capable as any in the country. This deployment will also better prepare them for the next disaster we face here at home.”
