Garvin-Wood-1438700394Garvin Clinton “Bud” Wood, 82, of Corinth, Mississippi, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, August 3, 2015, at his residence. He was born in Alcorn County on July 19, 1933 to the late Richard Perry and Olive Hardin Wood. Bud was a foreman for Worsham Brothers Construction for over 30 years. He loved his job and the people he worked with. There was never a road he traveled that he didn’t have a story to tell about how it was built or about a bridge he helped build. He also owned Wood’s Grocery on Corinth-Jacinto Road for many years and loved exchanging stories with his neighbors. He enjoyed gardening and took much pride in his yard and its appearance. He loved the holidays and looked forward to decorating for each one – he said he did this for the kids, but we all knew he was the biggest kid of all. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grands and always put them first. He made sure he and Dorothy had all their favorite foods and toys to play with when they visited making each one feel special. His greatest love was his wife, Dorothy Plaxico-Wood, whom he married in 1952. When he first saw her he told his brother, “I’m going to marry that girl.” They had 63 years of marriage raising their six children in a loving, Christian environment. He was a deacon at Tobes Chapel Church for many years and always visited the sick, took groceries or carried them wherever they needed to go. In later years he was a member of the Church of the Crossroads. His love for God was his shining force and his smile and laughter could light up a room. He was a great story teller, and everyone loved to hear Papa’s stories. Visitation is scheduled from 5 until 8 PM on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, and from 10 AM until service time on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, officiated by Rev. Trey Lambert. Interment will follow at Vanderford Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Magnolia Funeral Home is caring for the family.
