Man Arrested Blood And White Powder On His Person….Charged With Burglary and Theft Of Property

ATHENS-On Sunday morning, July 26 Athens Police received a call of a suspicious person at the Wal-Mart in Athens.

Here is Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson’s account of the events leading up to the arrest of one suspect:

“Sunday morning shortly before 07:00 officers received a call of a suspicious person at Wal-Mart. Officer Neal Muse and Sgt. Dusty Meadows responded and located Damion Malik Najera near the back of the store.

Najera appeared to be under the influence of some type of substance. Najera had blood on his clothing and a white power on him as well. Offices noticed large bulges under Najera’s clothing. When officers checked Najera they located 2 cans of air dust cleaner spray, a machete and a small axe on his person. After talking with Najera he admitted taking the air cleaner, machete and small axe from Wal-Mart. Officers arrested him for theft of property 3rd degree.
Earlier in the morning around 06:15 officers responded to an alarm call at Express Oil on Hwy 72. When officers arrived they found someone had attempted to break in the back door of the business. The manager was contacted and responded to the business. After looking thru the building everything seemed to be in place and nothing was missing.
Officer Jason Threet was patrolling other business in the area and found a broken window at Four Seasons Hair Salon on Bolyn Street. Officers located blood inside the business along with white power that had been sprayed from a fire extinguisher. The only things missing were a hair brush and a white towel.
Due to the attempted burglary at Express Oil Change and the Burglary at four Seasons investigator Bret Constable was notified. Later Sunday morning Constable interviewed Najera. He confessed to the burglary and attempted burglary.
Shortly before 10:00 the police department received a call of a vehicle that had been broken into on Fern Street. The victim told officers he and his wife were leaving to go to church and noticed someone had gone thru their vehicle. They were missing a car phone charger and a Swiss army knife. The knife was on Najera when he was arrested.
Najera was arrested for one count of Burglary 3rd degree, one count of attempted burglary, one count of theft of property 3rd , one count of theft of property 3rd degree, one count of unlawfully breaking and entering a vehicle and public intoxication. Najera was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
