Jean Houston Allen – Obituary

Jean Houston Allen, 85, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Countrywood Plantation in Mantachie. She was born May 28, 1930, in Itawamba County to Quincy and Myrtle Cockrell Houston. She lived in Wisconsin for 45 years before retiring home to Mississippi 20 years ago. She was a resort manager for many years in Lac du Flambeau, WI. She was a member of Tombigbee Baptist Church. She was saved at age 15 at Tombigbee and was quick to share her conversion story.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Terry Paul Graham, Bro. Mike Reeves, and Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Jeanne Grissom Wesson (Tom) and Nancy Grissom Whitehead (Sam), both of Mantachie, Brad Allen of Chaska, MN, and Jeffery R. Allen of Mantachie; eight grandchildren, Sid Kirksey (Angie), Ginger Kirksey Nanney (Wade), Grant Kirksey (Mandy), and Dru Carpenter (Andrea), all of Mantachie; Misty Allen Ojampa, Jeff Allen, and Heather Allen, all of Chaska, MN, and Christine Allen Paige of Montgomery, AL; her great-grandchildren, Katlyn Carpenter Spradling (Thomas); Jesse and John Nanney; Sam, Ben, and Hannah Kirksey; Dalton Edge; and Kyleigh and Kamyrn Ojampa; two sisters, Wanda Carruth of Harlingen, TX, and Jimmie Carol Houston of the Richmond community; a good friend and neighbor, Jean Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Ray “Big A” Allen, on November 18, 1999; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
