johnnyJohn Ray Caver, age 71, of Punkin Center, Alabama passed away Friday, July 3rd, 2015 at the William Green VA Nursing Home in Bay Minette, AL. Mr. Caver was born October 10th, 1943 in Morgan County to Joel Murph and Tressie Caver. Visitation will be on Monday, July 6, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle, Al. Funeral services will be at Southwest Baptist Church in Hartselle, Al. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Bryan Blass and Bro. Dewitt Crow officiating. Burial will be at the Stroup Family Cemetery in Punkin Center. Mr. Caver is preceded in death by his parents, Joel Murph and Tressie Caver; one sister Fay Caver; and one great- grandson, Alan Shelton

Several Nieces and Nephews

Mr. Caver was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force stationed in Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was retired from the Decatur Fire Department after 27 years of service. John Caver was lifetime member and one of the founders of Punkin Center Volunteer Fire Department. He was one of the first local Emergency Medical Technician in this area after receiving training through a TVA program around 1974. Mr. Caver was a dedicated servant of his community. He was very active in the local baseball programs, schools, PTA, and other community programs. He was an active member of the Wheeler Basin Camping Club. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren participate in sports and school events. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Zac Caver, Jordan Caver, Brody Caver, Brayden Caver, Beau Caver, W. C. Brown, Darrell Shelton, Patrick Kelly, and Howard Gibson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Decatur firefighters and Punkin Center Volunteer Firefighters. He will be buried with full firefighter’s honor.
