The four flags that flew over the State Capitol were part of a confederate memorial at the Capitol.  The flags were removed with no ceremony or warning .

Per the press secretary to Governor Bentley, Yasmie August, the flags have been removed permanently.

Governor Bentley did acknowledge that the removal was due in part to the church shootings in Charleston, South Carolina last week.  He also said “That is was the right thing to do.”
