Charles D. Hill Sr. “Big Don” – Obituary

donMr. Charles D. Hill Sr. “Big Don”, 76, passed away Sunday April 19, 2015 in the early hours after a day of work, singing and speaking. He was a US Army veteran and owner of Big Don’s Market. He was a member of AA and talented muscian. He served as funeral escort for the Grundy County Sheriffs Department and was a member of the Cumberland Baptist Church and was writing a book about the Churches in Grundy County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard A. Hill and Thelma Ruth Rollins Hill.

He is survived by his wife Ruby Lee Hill; daughters, Kathy (Allen) Griffith and Lisa Hill (Johnny) Rodriguez; sons, Ricky (Diana) Hill and Charles D. (Nicole) Hill Jr.; brother Raymond Hill; sister; Linda Gayle Hill; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; step-children, Ronnie (Katrina) Preston, Angie (Jerry Don) Powell and Jennifer (Jim) Baxter; 8 step-grandchildren.

Big Don’s personal wish was to be buried at the Schield Cemetery in Beersheba Springs privately with no public service and in his funeral documents he stated “May God be with you all until we meet again in heaven where I know I shall be”. Arrangements by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, Tennessee.
