Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Juvenile Justice Studies, and Child Advocacy Studies Training (CAST), Dr. Quanda Watson- Stevenson is the founder and event organizer.
“Over the past ten years, people who recognized my dedication and advocacy for children and families have asked me to host a conference for children,” said Stevenson. “I have always had a passion for helping children and this conference provides the perfect opportunity for her, students, and practitioners to help children in the community and gain hands-on experience.”
The 2nd Annual Y.E.A. Conference will provide educational awareness and services to address specific needs of children and families in this area of Alabama. This conference will promote services and programs that impact children and their families in the community, such as truancy, success, job training/time management, Spanish 101, imagesCooking 101 sponsored by Longhorn of Huntsville, nutrition, bullying, and other issues our children and teen face in the community.
“We have added a new addition to this year’s conference which includes an interactive entertainment portion of the conference where children are introduced to Robotics,” Stephenson said. download“Participants can also attend creative art sessions where they can make crafts and face paint. This is an event for the entire family. Last year, we had over 125 children and parents attend the conference. This year our goal is to provide services to over 150 children and their families.”
The conference sessions are designed to educate various school-aged children; parents can help their children select which sessions they want to attend.
