Walter F. Hester – Obituary

walterWalter F. Hester, age 95, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Glenwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on November 23, 1919 to James Robert & Walker Lee Hester of the Crooked Oak Community. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Reynolds Metals. He attended South Side Baptist Church.

The visitation will be 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015 at South Side Baptist Church, Russellville, with the funeral following at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Officiating at the service will be Bro. Michael Stancil and Bro. Daniel Welborn. Burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and twelve siblings, brothers, Ed, Dallas, Charlie, and Henry Hester; sisters, Susie Malone, Ethel Lindsey, Etta Kimbrough, Mae Lindsey, Pearl James, Jessie Lisby, Willie Grissom, and Elva Greenwood.

He is survived by his one daughter, Yevette Ritter (husband, Curtis); grandsons, Brad Ritter (wife, Dianna), Russ Ritter (wife, Bethany); great-grandchildren, Addison, Bo, Blake, Kelton, and Baylor Ritter; best friend, Marguerite Nicholson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The pallbearers will be Russ Ritter, Brad Ritter, Doug Nicholson, Jimmy Poss, Randy Lindsey, and Jimmy Murphree. The honorary pallbearers will be Clanton Hester, Waldon James, and deacons of South Side Baptist Church.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the South Side church members who have so faithfully visited Daddy and added so much to his life these past two years. Also we want to give thanks to Dr. Webb, Teresa, Lynn, and the CNA’s at Glenwood for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial to Crooked Oak Cemetery, c/o Velma Ruth Kimbrough, 3075 Frankfort Road, Tuscumbia, AL 35674.
