_MG_4962FLORENCE – Florence Police divers have recovered the body of a car passenger who was trapped inside the car that plunged into Cypress Creek early this morning.

They tried to get into the frigid waters early this morning, but the conditions were simply too harsh. So they came back about 2 o’clock this afternoon to give it another shot. This time the divers were successful in finding the car and recovering the body.

The identity of the victim and the other person  in the automobile have not yet been officially released. The Quad-Cities Daily is withholding publishing the names until their identities have been officially released by the Florence Police Department Chief, Ron Tyler.

The bridge over Cypress Creek on Highway 20 was the scene of the recovery effort. Since the accident, the highway has been closed to all traffic other than official vehicles.

The Quad-Cities Daily was on-scene to record the recovery effort so the work of the Florence Police and Fire Department could be documented as they worked in the frigid waters.
