A memorial service for Doris Darlene Thompson, 85, of Courtland will be Sunday, March 8, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Courtland Presbyterian Church. A private graveside service will be held by the family at Courtland Cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson died Monday, March 2. She was born February 27, 1920. She served on the Lawrence County Board of Registrars and was a member of Courtland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Thompson was active for many years in Courtland serving on many civic, cultural and historical organizations and committees. She organized the Courtland Christmas Parade, the Courtland Picnic in the Park and the Miss Cotton Beauty Pageant. Mrs. Thompson also wrote “The Valley” column for The Moulton Advertiser for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Donovan Thompson Jr. and her parents, Fred Valentine Rushing and Mamie Frances Rushing.
Survivors include three daughters Ann Ellisa Thompson, Jane Ellen Thompson and Amy Rushing Thompson; and two sons, Richard Donovan Thompson III and David Henderson Thompson.
