Freightcar-America-Inc.-logoTHE SHOALS – There are a few items to keep in mind if you plan on attending FreightCar America’s job fair on January 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center.

Applicants are encouraged to fill out an application through the AIDT website before coming to the job fair. “There will be accommodations onsite for completing an application, but it will save applicants some wait time,” said Amy Melton, Human Resources Director at FreightCar America.Web

“Contrary to previous reports, candidates cannot apply for these positions through the FreightCar America website. All applications must be submitted through the AIDT.edu website under the “Job Seekers” section. Applicants can also navigate to the AIDT website through FreightCar America’s website,” explained Melton.

AIDT will be conducting the training for these positions. All applicants selected for employment will be offered a position contingent upon completing AIDT pre-employment training as well as meeting additional requirements.

fca-qcdnA good candidate would have previous manufacturing and welding experience, but it is not a requirement. FreightCar America has a welding school on-site to train incoming employees. Candidates must be able to work in an assembly line environment as part of a team and be willing to work any shift.

Starting pay for production roles is $12 per hour. After serving a 90 day probationary period, welders can make from $14-$16.93 per hour based on weld certifications. FreightCar America offers medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401K participation, paid holidays, paid vacation and tuition assistance.

FreightCar America announced earlier this month it plans to fill between 150 and 200 production team positions at the mile-long railcar plant in Barton, Alabama. FreightCar America is increasing employment in the Shoals area as it expands its orders for railcar manufacturing.shoals chamber of commerce
