MUSCLE SHOALS-MSHS Trojans had their second week of wrestling action for the season. On Tuesday, December 9th, the Trojans participated in a dual-meet at MSHS with East Limestone, Wilson along with an exhibition with the newly formed Florence High School wrestling team. Some new faces were on the mat for the Trojans for the day starting with 106lber, Hunter Estis (1-1). The remainder of the results were 113/120lb Arick Shankles (2-0 by pinfall), 120lb Daniel Betancourt (1-0 by pinfall), 126/132lb Joseph Green (2-0 by pinfall), 126/132 lb Brennen Shankles (1-1 by pinfall), 138lb Greyson Beaver (2-0 by pinfall), 145 lb Braden Barnes (2-0 by pinfall), 152lb James Green( 2-0 by pinfall), 195lb Elijah Morrow (1-1), 220lb Austin Loredo( 2-0 by pinfall) and 285lb Marlon Whiteside 1-0. 160lb Hunter Hall and 171lb Daniel Berry each received forfeits in their respective weights.
The team traveled to the Charlie Bruce Duals in Fultondale on December 12-13 where they placed fourth overall. Against Gardendale HS, the results were as follows: Hall (pin), A. Shankles (pin), Betancourt (FF), B. Shankles loss in OT, J. Green (pin), Beaver (8-3), J. Green (7-2), Barnes, (pin), Berry (FF). Final team score 42-33.
The Trojans then took on Walker Valley HS with a final score of 54-12. A. Shankles, B.Shankles, J. Green, Beaver, J. Green all won by pinfall with Barnes, Berry, Whiteside and Loredo accepting forfeits. The Trojans finished Friday night action against Tate High school (FL) with a 42-12 win. Pinfalls were earned by A. Shankles, B. Shankles, J. Green, Beaver, J. Green and Barnes with Berry, Morrow and Loredo picking up forfeit points.
On Saturday, the Trojans took a tough loss to the Wildcats of Hayden 28-42. A. Shankles, James Green, won by pinfall. B. Shankles won by decision 7-3 while Beaver secured a major decision 12-0. Next, the team faced Brookwood HS ending in a loss 34-42. Jacobi Gilchrist stepped in at 106lb to accept a forfeit. A. Shankles continued the points with a 17-1 technical fall, followed by B. Shankles with an 8 second pinfall. Joe Green secured his match with a 22-2 technical fall followed by James Green with a first period pinfall. The final dual match of the day was versus Moody High School with a 27-53 loss. A. Shankles, B. Shankles, J. Green, and Hall each won by pinfall with James Green picking up a 9-2 decision. The Trojans were plagued with injuries during the second day of the tournament with only 7 wrestlers participating. This week the Trojans hope to recover and remove most of the team from the injury list. The Trojans will be at home this week hosting the Muscle Shoals High School Duals Invitational and JV tournament on Saturday, December 20. Wrestling starts at 9:00 at the MSHS gym. Admission will be $10.
