ATHENS-FEATURED1ATHENS-Athens, Limestone NAACP and Limestone County announce that it is that time of year agai.  Time for area students to write their essay for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration Essay Contest for 2015.

Below is everything you need to know to enter the contest:mlk

Criteria:

  • Themes for the 2015 essay (you may chose either topic):
  1. “The Color of Unity.”
  2. “My Most Favorite Quote of Dr. King…And What it Means to Me.”
  • Must be a student attending a school in Athens or Limestone County.
  • No more than one page in length and typed or written legibly by hand.
  • The student and not an adult must write the essay. Counselors and parents may assist

the students, but make sure it is the student’s words and thoughts.

  • Include the student’s name, age and a phone number on the upper right corner of essay
  • The age categories are 6-12,13-15 and 16-18.
  • The essay will be judged on, clarity, content, grammar, and how well the theme is developed based on age of the writer.
  • The winners in each category will read their essays during the MLK program on Jan. 19.
  • The first, second, and third place winners in each age group will receive a cash award.
